Step 1: Prepare your Web

Backup your web
As with any global operation, we recommend that you backup your web before starting this process, it is always easier to restore the web from a backup than to undo the global changes to a web.

To back up you web in FrontPage 2003 simply select File->Publish Site. The Remote Web Site Properties dialog will appear. Click the radio button for the File System option and browse to a location on your hard drive, then type in an appropriate web directory name (i.e., backup_web) and press OK. You will asked if you would like FrontPage to create a new directory, select yes to publish the web to your hard drive.

Bring up the destination web in FrontPage
Bring up the web you would like to attach a DWT to in FrontPage 2003.

Remove Common Page Areas
If your web is either a shared border Web or was built with a 3rd-party FrontPage template and has common areas (FrontPage Navigation, page banners, etc.), please choose one of the following links:

Super Theme or Shared Border Web - If you are converting a Super Theme or shared border web, you will need to remove the shared borders, keeping only the main page content.

Non-DWT Web Template - If you are converting a non-DWT web template that was built using a FrontPage template or a 3rd party FrontPage template that has common areas (FrontPage Navigation, page banners, etc.), the common areas should be removed before applying a DWT.
