Changing a themes font, style or color
By David Pfeiffer of FrontLook.com

After applying a Super Theme to your web, it is sometimes desirable to change the font type, style, color or alignment. This is done via the FrontPage Theme browser in FrontPage 2000 or 2002. In this example, we use the Fran Blue Super Theme from the Best of Paul #2 package.

So lets get started

First bring up the web in FrontPage and select the Format->Theme... menu item.

Format Menu

This will bring up the FrontPage Theme browser. Press the Modify button at the bottom of the dialog:

FrontPage Theme Browser / Editor

Changing Font Attributes (other than color)

To change the font type, font size, font style or alignment press the "Graphics" button and then the "Font" tab. Now select the graphic that you would like to modify the font of. Now change the font type, size, style or alignment using the dialog controls (shown below).

Changing the Font Type of the Vertical Navigation buttons

Once the desired change have been made, press the "OK" button.

Changing Color Attributes of the Theme

To change the color attributes of the theme, press the "Colors" button. This will bring up the Modify Theme colors dialog. Press the "Custom" tab and then select the item that you would like to change the color of. Then select the new color in the "Color" popup menu.

Changing the color of the Navigation buttons text.

Once you have made all your color changes, press the "OK" button to return to the Theme browser.

Saving the Modified Theme

Once you have made all the changes you wish to make, Save the new theme using the "Save As..." button.

Important: DO NOT save your new theme using the "Save" button as it will overwrite the old theme which may affect other webs that use that same theme.

Rename the theme giving it a version number of some type (see below) and press the "OK" button.

Save As dialog

You will then be returned to the Theme browser dialog and the new theme will be selected. In most cases you should just press the "OK" button to apply the newly modified theme to you web.

Here is a before and after shot of a small font type and color change to the Fran Super Theme vertical navigation buttons.

Before

After

Your web will now be refreshed using your newly modified theme. If something doesn't seem just right, restart FrontPage as this will force it's page cache to be refreshed.

And that is it. A simple procedure for making style changes to your web.
