Customize your Splash Pages using the FrontPage Text Tool for images
By David Pfeiffer
When adding a Page Effects Splash page to your web site, a little bit of text in the right place can make the page even more personal. In this tip we will explore the use of the FrontPage Pictures Bar Text Tool to customize a splash page image. Several examples will be presented.

Inserting a FrontLook Page Effects Splash Page
The Page Effects product comes with many pre-made splash pages to wow your web site viewers. To add a FrontLook intro page to your web select the "Insert->FrontLook->FrontLook Page Effects->Insert Splash Page..." menu item. The Insert Splash Page Dialog will appear.

Insert Splash Page dialog

Select a splash page and press the "Preview" button to view the splash page.

Once you have selected a splash page to be inserted, then name the page and make sure the location is satisfactory (we recommend that you place your splash page in the root of your web). Then press the "OK" button to insert the page and its graphics onto your web site.

Customize the Page
Using the FrontPage Picture Bars Text Tool, we can add text on top of GIF and JPEG images. To illustrate, lets customize the Bubbles splash page for a special occasion planning business.

After adding the Bubbles splash page to your web (see above), bring up the page and delete the "Put Your Link Here" text and replace it with name of the business as illustrated below.

Splash Page Tips

Add Redirection Timer
If you would like to automatically redirect the user to your home page after some pre-programmed delay, see the following tip on how to do this:

Make Splash Page the Default Page
Once you have your splash page setup on your web, see the following tip to do this: Using a Splash Page on your FrontPage Web Site.

Note: DO NOT Name the Splash page "index.htm" or "Default.htm" as these are special page name in FrontPage for the home page for the web.

Before and After the adding of the business name and descriptor

Now lets add some text to the wedding cake image to invite our viewer into our web site and add the business tagline; "We make every occasion Just Right".

First, select the wedding cake image and then locate the Pictures Tool toolbar. It usually is positioned at the bottom of the screen as illustrated below. If you cannot see it, enable the Picture toolbar via the "Tools->Customize..." menu. Then select the "Toolbars" tab and check the "Pictures" checkbox.

Text Tool on the Picture Toolbar

Press the Text Tool button and a square box will appear on top of the selected image. Click inside the box and a text editing bar will appear. Type in "Press Here to Start Planning Your Special Occasion" and set the text color, size and font using the text controls. Click outside the text editing area and then position the text box on the image.

Then add the business tagline to the bottom of the picture in a similar fashion.

Now add a hyperlink to the image so that when the visitor clicks on the image it will take them to your home page.

Another Example
Here is an example using the Computer splash page.

Now add a hyperlink to the image so that when the visitor clicks on the image it will take them to your home page.

And That is It
Using the FrontPage Text tool makes it easy to embellish and customize a Page Effects splash page image.
