| Install or First Time Use Trouble
Shooting When installing FrontLook, the
installer asked me to choose to install FrontLook for FP98. I uninstalled
FP98, why am I getting this message and what should I do?
The installer has found residual registry entries for another version of FP.
Just select your version and continue.
I have installed FrontLook Page Effects product. When I look at the
FrontLook entry under start menu or Add-remove programs list, I see two
uninstall entries, "FrontLook Page Effects Core Files" and "FrontLook Page
Effects ( Part # ) files". Why are there two uninstall entries ?
There are many variations to FrontLook Page Effects product. These products
have different sets of page and cursor effects and splash page templates.
But the bots and the JavaScript engine is the same. So in order to manage
installations of multiple FrontLook Page Effects products, each install is
divided into two installs viz. FrontLook Page Effects Core Files ( the bots
and the JavaScript engine, common to all FrontLook Page Effects products )
and FrontLook Page Effects ( Part # ) Files ( page and cursor effects and
the splash page templates for the specific product ). If you wish to
uninstall these products, it is recommended that all the effects are
uninstalled first and the core product is uninstalled last. This will ensure
that the files and folder structures are uninstalled properly.
I just installed the FrontLook program and went to launch the program,
but could not find anyway to start the program, where is the program?
FrontLook is not a standalone program but is integrated into FrontPage.
Bring up FrontPage and you will note a FrontLook Menu (in FP98, it will be
in the FP Editor) in the Insert menu. Our Splash pages can accessed using
the Files->New->Page menu.
Why do I get a "Not Found Error" when I select the Page or Cursor
Effects from the Insert->FrontLook menu?
This is because the product has been uninstalled or the registry is setup
incorrectly, please follow the steps outlined below regarding a faulty
installation.
I inserted a FrontLook Effect, but when I try to edit the effect
again, I get a strange "FrontPage Component could not be found" error
message.
This is usually caused by a faulty installation. If you have multiple
versions of FrontPage on your system see the question above regarding
FrontPage 98 and 2000. To confirm your installation, from the FrontPage
Editor, go to the 'Insert' menu and select the 'Web Components or
Components->Additional Components...'. In the dialog, you should see the
FrontLook Components. If not, then do the following:
 | Uninstall the product by going to the task bar 'Start'
menu, then go to Programs item and find the FrontLook folder. Select
FrontLook Page Effects Uninstall. |
 | Next, bring up FrontPage and go to your help menu and
select Detect and Repair, this will make sure the FP registry is setup
properly. |
 | Next, reinstall the FrontLook product and pay close
attention to the location of the 'bots' directory that the installer
finds. It should be "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office" for FP 2000
and "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10" for FP 2002. If you
installed FrontPage on another hard drive, you will need to use the file
browse to locate the directory that contains the bots folder and the
Frontpg.exe file. |
I'm trying to insert an effect and I'm getting an
error message "Could not Get...from FrontPage" or "Mismatched URL...". What
is going on here?
There are several possible reasons for this error message:
 | You might not have a web open in FrontPage, rather only
a page. Open a FrontPage Web |
 | You might not have a page in the editor window. Open a
page in the web for editing. |
 | You might not have a page that belongs to the web open
in the editor window. Typically when FP is opened up, it presents you with
a new page for the web and it is not part of the web until it is saved.
Either Open a page in the web for editing or save the new page and then
try inserting an effect. |
 | The registry may not be setup correctly. Bring up
FrontPage and go to your Help menu and select "Detect and Repair", this
will make sure the FP registry is setup properly. |
I installed the FrontLook package, but when I go the
File->New->Page and bring up the New Page dialog, I don't see the DPA Page
Templates. Where are the Splash Pages?
This is usually caused by a faulty installation. The Page templates
typically need to be installed in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Templates\1033\Pages directory. If the DPA page templates are not in
this directory, then you might re-run the installer and when you get to the
Pages directory confirmation panel, press the Browse button and select the
proper directory.
I want to be able to use FrontLook with both FrontPage 98 and
FrontPage 2000, but FrontLook only work with one of them. I tried to install
FrontLook to work with them both, what is going on here?
FrontLook will only operate with one of them because FrontLook requires
FrontPage OLE services for web access and only one of the versions can be
registered at a time, usually the last installed. It FrontLook is working
with the wrong version of FrontPage reinstall the version of FrontPage you
want it to work with and that will enable FrontLook to operate properly with
that version. |
