Using FrontLook Splash Pages

The FrontLook Page Effects product comes with many pre-made splash pages to wow your web site viewers. Adding a FrontLook Effects Splash to your web is easy using the Insert->FrontLook->FrontLook Page Effects->Splash Pages... menu item.

Insert Splash Page Menu

The Insert Splash Page Dialog will appear.

Insert Splash Page dialog

Select the splash page and press the "Preview" button to view the splash page.

Once you have selected a splash page to be inserted, then name the page (splash.htm in this example) and make sure the location is satisfactory. Then press the "OK" button to insert the page and its graphics onto your web site.

Note: Do NOT Name your splash page "index.htm" or "Default.htm" as these are special page names in FrontPage for the home page of the web. You will learn later how to make your splash page the default page on your web. Trying to make the splash page into the index page of the web may mess up your navigation structure.

You can then edit the Page and Cursor Effects on the splash page by double clicking on the PE and CE Logos.

Customize the Page
Most of the pages will have a "Place your Link Here" type of placeholder for your home page link. Change this and anything else using the FrontPage editor.

Make your Splash Page the Default Page on your Web
Once you have your splash page setup on your web, you need to make it so that the user is taken to the splash page by default. Once you have published your web to your server, contact your web hoster and ask them to make your new splash page the default page of your web.

If you are hosting your own web, then bring up your web site Properties from the Internet Information Services Manager and then add "splash.htm" to the top of the Default Documents list as illustrated below:

Adding a Redirection Timer to the Splash Page
If you would like to automatically redirect the user to your home page after some pre-programmed delay, do the following:

Bring up the Splash page in FrontPage and right click on the page and select the Page Properties menu item. Then select the Custom tab and press the System Variables "Add..." button.

Now Add the following to the System-Meta Variable Dialog and press the OK button.:
